    Language of Love

    Language of Love

In our last UC episode, we talked about our relationships with our mothers and how we learn from those relationships to treat our partners as adults. We wrap it up with what kind of legacy of love we want to leave for our black kids - a legacy of shame, of forgiveness, of silence, of belief in our ability to be unique and fully express ourselves.
This episode will go a little further and explore our language of love as black men, and how we effectively communicate it. Culturally speaking there is a disconnect between  what we think love is and what women perceive as love, not always romantic love but respect. Are we speaking clearly? And in a way they can hear us?

Our podcast about our other podcast.
A lot gets said on Uncomfortable Conversations (subscribe & see for yourself!), so we'll be unpacking each episode with a guest. We'll go over the choice of theme, the best parts of the conversation between our guest and host and the lessons we hope to take from them.
My co-host today is also my oldest friend, Mita. Together we speak on the importance of men not learning our lessons through the pain of black women and how wonderful it is to see black men talking therapy. Here's Episode 3: Who Raised You unpacked.

    Who Raised You?

    Who Raised You?

FT and our guest, Donovan begin this conversation with the question - Who Raised You? Or better - how are we as black men raised to not understand accountability? And end up breaking down the role of shame in our lives, the power of apologizing and owning up to the bad habits we’ve picked up along the way.
What legacy of love for ourselves do we want to leave for our black kids?”

    Safe Spaces

    Safe Spaces

Safe space as 'a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment or any other emotional or physical harm'.
This can be emotional, physical, psychological, in the sense that where someone can bring an issue or concern to the table without your reaction being the one thing they are concerned about.
In the context of what we aim to accomplish with Uncomfortable Conversations, we want a space for us to be as honest as we can, to be as vulnerable we would like to be, one free of criticism, and as free of harassment as possible.
Yet as men, we realize that we have the privilege of creating and owning a lot of spaces that are safe for us, but not safe for women, and in the context of this conversation black women.
